It requires good scouting (and a lot of coins) to warp attack other players. But if you find a whole lot of troops out, and have a nice big army, go for it if you can! Warp your sub with troops directly beside them and attack -- this allows you to it fast, even with cats -- then warp away whenever you want.
You can't warp if there's a counterattack on your city. All your city progress needs to be done, and no attack/hunting standing on you.
It's all in the timing.
How to get somebody back. Let's say an alliance member (Aren) is being attacked by an army they can't take on. So you know the army size that will be returning to their city once the battle is done. Alliance member (we'll say Belso) wants in on the action! So Belso can warp his sub with troops next to the enemy's location they're attacking from (which Aren will have to tell Belso). Belso tests how long it takes him to send all his troups by attacking a ha_ town next to the enemy. Aren tells Belso how long it is til battle is done. Belso knows it's time to launch his troops to the enemy town and catch the troops upon their arrival when the gap is right.
Attack the ha next to you with full troops so you know how long to plan your attacks. If it takes 15 seconds, now you know that if your buddy says there are 25 seconds left in battle then you have time to make a move. You don't want to give them 38 seconds to hunt.
When attacking other players' towns, it's smart to first send a single cav to scout for Trap and/orTurret levels, before you attack a target, if possible. Of course this is not always possible if you are trying to catch the opponent by surprise.
TEAM STRATEGY
Here are the basics for a few team strategies you can do together. During times of war use these strategies with your teammmates. Coordinate on AC.
Basic Attack - Hope your army is bigger than your target's and head forth to wage an attack upon them.
Cropping or starvation- locate an enemy that is supported by many crop oases. Capture and resign all of them. Now wait. If and when the enemy finally starves then all hunted troops will return home. Those that didn't starve will be open to attack.
Farming run - simply an attack on any city in hopes of gaining resources. Extra resources convert directly into prestige by means of training, upgrading or making money.
Scout - sending a single cav at an enemy to see if they have traps and turrets and at what level.
Fort robbing - an attempt to obtain a fort occupied by an enemy. Either to goad them into recalling their army or to resign so you can farm it.
Warping or teleport attacks - moving a sub to an enemy to strike in an instant and then fleeing. For coin buyers this is very valuable. It's quite easy. Centralize your troops in a single city. A sub city is cheaper coin wise. Find your target and use the move city action to move your city right next to your enemy. Attack your enemy. Finally, return your city to its original location.
Note: All actions must be complete to move a city. Dispatches must be complete. No upgrades can be in progress and no hunts can be out. Also, the city cannot be under attack.Sub captures - attacking an enemy sub repeatedly to capture it (Requires assistance from teammate). This can be used to goad the enemy into exposing their army, for your own personal growth or it can be used in a devious way based on the following info. If any troops exist within the sub upon its capture they are immediately killed. This does not yield prestige but can be used to cut an enemy army down significantly.
Psychological attacks - These attacks have a single purpose. Pester and upset the enemy. Tempting revenge. Constant weak attacks coupled with cropping and fort robbing executed by multiple players on a single enemy several times a day. Tough to achieve but worth it when it happens.
Locking - using a cat from a far away location on an enemy. While a player is locked they can't move that city or transport resources into that city. Locking multiple enemy cities collectively makes it difficult to fees troops. Forcing the player to expose their army or spend money in an attempt to feed. We always hope for the first option but option b ties into a psychological attack so it's really a win/win.
